Soroptimist International of Kona continues the tradition started in 2003, with it's annual "Break the Cycle" Dinner Dance and Silent Auction. That first year we raised almost $2,000 for Turning Point for Families, which provides emergency funds for domestic violence victims in West Hawaii, and every year since then this event has been even more successful.

Funds raised in the 2004 and 2005 years were spent in 2005 and 2006 on numerous projects that benefit women and girls, such as

  • Donations for reading materials for the local county psychologists library, which included included literature on Date Rape, Harassment, and Prejudice to name just a few;
  • A teen production of "Bang Bang You're Dead"; a play written to help stop violence in schools that includes a question and answer session with a psychologist at the end. Students are encouraged to comment on what they just saw and ask questions;
  • Providing a much needed new washer, dryer, and a freezer to our local women's shelter.

Proceeds from the event will directly benefit Turning Points for Families as well as provide educational support for schools in our Community.

Domestic abuse awareness is a core need within our community.  Please help us “Break the Cycle” and create a healthier community.
